Lantern Floating

Lantern floating, also known as Toro Nagashi, is a ceremony of paying respects to the ancestors and remembering the spirits of those whose have passed away. The ceremony originated from Japan where it became a part of Buddhist Rites. They put candles in small boats and let it float in rivers where they carry sincere prayers for those who sacrificed themselves in war, victims of natural disasters, and for the souls of deceased loved ones. The ceremony is also practiced in Hawaii where the Local Government made it an annual event since 2001. In the last few years, the number of participants and attendees in the ceremony rapidly increased. The ceremony has been accepted as more than just a Buddhist rite. It is shared by all regardless of race, religion or culture. In May 2009, more than 2,000 lantern pieces were lit in the ceremony. The attendance was recorded to be at around forty thousand.

The Artwork Of Precious Moments Dolls

Mr. Samuel Butcher is the talented person behind the Precious Moments dolls and collectibles. As a kid and later as a teenager he was into artwork and religion. He drew children with tear-dropped eyes for covers of religious work. As a gift for friends and family connections, he drew these innocent and lovable children to greet them during special occasions. Because his artwork was unique, he was encouraged to go commercial and print them into greeting cards. With Mr. Bill Biel, Samuel Butcher went into greeting card manufacturing. They introduced their product to religious gatherings and they were instantly swamped with orders.

With the success of the greeting cards, it was again proposed that the artwork should be interpreted into figurines to make them lasting memories. And so, in 1981, the first precious moments dolls were created. The “Jesus Loves Me” boy and girl dolls became the first line of dolls that the Precious Moments Company created.Many lines were soon to follow.
