Creating Opaque Windows for Added Privacy

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Almost all home owners have at one point of time or another faced privacy issues with some of the rooms in their house. The most common area where more privacy would be preferred is the bathroom windows and shower enclosures. Opaque window film is the perfect solution to many of these home owners. The glass film is made of vinyl material and will stick to the glass surface through static action without any necessity for additional adhesive. This newest trend of using self-adhesive glass films is catching up popularity among home owners up and down the country and window films sales have shot up tremendously.

When installed, glass film not only provide you with the added privacy, it also filters out harmful ray from the sun. From our high school science subject, we would have learnt that solar ray consists of seven spectrum, each with different wavelength. We are most concerned with the ray with the longest wave length, which is the infra-red ray and the one with the shorter wave length, that is the ultra-violet ray. Infra-red ray causes heat gain entering your house and ultra-violet ray causes your furniture, carpet, upholstery and draperies to fade in color.

Opaque window films have excellent inherent properties to filter out up to 80% of infra-red ray and 95% of ultra-violet ray. When window films are installed on a piece of glass, it is hard to tell whether the glass is originally frosted to make it opaque or have a film simply stick to it. They comes in many designs and patterns too. If you wish to make a window fully opaque, then you should use the fully frosted glass film. On the other hand, if you wish to have it as semi-opaque, then use the light frost version. Many home owners use the fully frosted effect film on bathroom windows and the light frost designs on shower doors and the combination works out excellent.
